The spectacular golden dunes of Erg Chebbi are among the most remarkable in the Sahara. Some peak at 150 m in height. They stretch as far as the eye can see between the famous Ziz Valley and the Algerian border. The town of Rissani , former terminus of the trans-Saharan caravans, is a charming oasis in the Ziz Valley.
It is located in Tafilalet , in the southeast of Morocco, about 40 km south of Arfoud , close to Algeria . It is 22 km long and 5 km wide .
The center welcoming tourists is the village of Merzouga , located at the foot of the first dunes. This village is accessible by road and ten hours are necessary to connect it to Marrakech or Fez .

There is another Erg Chebbi in the Ougarta Mountains in Algeria, of almost identical dimensions.
Erg Chebbi is the best place in Morocco for many desert activities such as quad biking and 4×4 excursion. Also lots of tourist accommodation
